As part of its commitment to supporting national industries and enhancing
their role in achieving sustainable development, Misr Fertilizers Production
Company (MOPCO) hosted His Excellency Engineer Karim Badawy, Minister of
Petroleum and Mineral Resources, during a visit to the company’s complex.
During the visit, the minister emphasized the important role MOPCO plays in
securing the local market’s fertilizer needs, praising its efforts in
implementing the highest standards of safety and environmental practices, and
its shift towards green production. He also commended the global partnerships
MOPCO has formed with companies such as “Scatec” and “Yara” from Norway, as
part of the unique project for producing green ammonia, which has contributed
to enhancing MOPCO’s position as a regional leader in the fertilizer industry.
He explained that cooperation with the Ministry of Electricity to increase the
use of renewable energy would contribute to reinforcing Egypt’s ambition as a
regional hub for green energy, improve the efficiency of the fertilizer and
petrochemical industries, and increase production and export returns, with a
focus on maximizing the production capacities of petrochemical factories. He
also confirmed his full support for MOPCO’s expansion plan and opening new
markets for exports.
For his part, Engineer Ahmed Mahmoud, Chairman of MOPCO, reviewed the vital
role the company plays in meeting 30% of the local market’s urea needs and
providing 60% of ammonia, while exporting the surplus to global markets. He
also highlighted the launch of the ADBlue product with a 32.5% concentration,
aimed at reducing harmful emissions from diesel engines, as part of the
company’s commitment to green production. He pointed out MOPCO’s commitment to
environmental sustainability, having achieved 19 million safe working hours
since 2018, reduced carbon emissions by about 25,000 tons annually, and
improved energy consumption by 2% and water consumption by 10%. He also
emphasized the company’s future plans to expand the use of solar energy to 4
megawatts by next year.
This visit marks an important turning point in MOPCO’s journey toward
achieving environmental sustainability. The minister’s support encourages
further investment in clean technologies and renewable energy, contributing to
reinforcing Egypt’s position as an attractive destination for sustainable
investments.
