PetroSafe and the Misr Fertilizers Production Company (Mopco)
conducted the strategic practical exercise “New Egypt 1” for combating marine
oil pollution at Damietta Port, one of Egypt’s largest and most important
ports, as part of PetroSafe’s environmental protection plan.
The exercise involved
marine and river pollution control centers under the Egyptian General Petroleum
Corporation, Damietta Port Police, the Port’s Water Surfaces Police, Civil
Protection Administration, and the Central Customs Administration.
The event was attended by
Major General Tariq Adly Abdullah, Chairman of Damietta Port Authority;
Engineer Emad Abdel-Razek, Chairman and Managing Director of PetroSafe;
Engineer Ahmed Mahmoud El-Sayed, Chairman and Managing Director of Mopco; Dr.
Gamal Fathy, Advisor to the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources; Dr.
Tamer Ayash, Assistant CEO of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation for
Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental Protection; as well as numerous
company leaders, geographic committee heads, representatives of the
Environmental Affairs Agency, the Navy, the Chemical Warfare Administration,
and the Border Guard Forces.
The exercise achieved its
intended goals by reinforcing coordination and cooperation among all state
agencies in handling oil spill incidents. Attendees praised the outstanding
organization by PetroSafe, Mopco, the Damietta Port Authority, and all participating
entities.
