MOPCO Injects 10,000 Tons of Urea into the Local Market to Meet Farmers' Needs

In response to the directives of Eng. Karim Badawy, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, and in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture to provide additional quantities of urea fertilizer, Misr Fertilizer Production Company (MOPCO) — the largest producer of urea fertilizer in Egypt — announced the sale of 10,000 tons of urea in the local free market. This step aims to support farmers and meet their urgent needs before the end of the fertilization season.

This initiative comes amid recent circumstances that saw a shortage of fertilizer supplies, leading to a deficit in the local market and affecting agricultural seasons. Out of its commitment to enhancing the country’s food security, MOPCO quickly moved to provide this quantity to ensure the continuation of fertilization operations and prevent delays in crop cultivation.

The quantity was offered for sale through a public auction announced in local newspapers, in which major local market traders participated. The auction was characterized by transparency and simplified procedures to ensure timely delivery of the sold quantities, enabling farmers to catch up with the summer season.

MOPCO provided these quantities to cover shortages in several different regions, without affecting its commitment to supplying the Ministry of Agriculture with its allocated share of subsidized quantities. This step underscores the company's firm commitment to supporting the agricultural sector and ensuring the timely availability of fertilizers, helping farmers make the most of the agricultural season.
